Dear Room 13 Families, What a joyous, Torah filled week we had here in room 13. We have finally come to our final Fall holiday. With so many celebrations under our belt, this one fit right in. On Tuesday morning, the children were excited to see the tiny Torah during circle time. We discussed the importance of Torah and all the stories within teaching us how to live our lives. We learned about all of the special pieces to the Torah and even opened it up to see the Hebrew letters inside. The children noticed right away that there were no pictures, only words to the stories. We discussed how Simchat Torah is a joyous holiday where we celebrate the Torah by dancing and parade with the Torah as well as by reading the end and starting it all over again just like our favorite book (to which many of them called out “The Black Rabbit!” Soon, it was time for us to join the whole school community in the Sanctuary. We sang and prayed and finally it was time to parade around, kissing many Torahs and even getting a chance to see the inside of a real, big Torah scroll. The following day, we learned about the job of a Sofer, a scribe; the person who writes, by hand the whole Torah. We learned that a Sofer writes the Torah using a feather quill and ink. The children were enthralled as they studied the pictures and were so excited to learn that they too had the opportunity to create art using a real quill and ink. On Wednesday, during Storah Time, the children had yet another wonderful opportunity to get an up-close view of the Torah. We met Rabbi Sari in Plotkin chapel and watched as she took out the Torah from the Ark, the Aron HaKodesh, and opened it up for us. We again looked at all that the Torah was wearing and learned more about this special holiday. Each child had the opportunity to stand with Rabbi Sari, looking into the Torah and even find the Hebrew letter that begins their name! It was a wonderful experience all around. Throughout the rest of the week, the children enjoyed visiting Cheryl at the Yoga Studio. This week for our Yoga Adventure, we filled a magical bucket with warm feelings, learning a pose for each feeling. On Thursday, Marcos visited our class for Music and again danced and paraded with the Torah, only this time it was a stuffed one. We ended our week with a beautiful Shabbat celebration, first in our class and followed by our Explorer community service. We baked delicious challah and sang the blessings together. When visiting the Sanctuary, we sang beautiful Shabbat songs and prayers with Ditza and heard a wonderful story from Rabbi Sari. It was a wonderful ending to a wonderful week. Shabbat Shalom, Hannah and Chen Reminders: *Please make sure to sign in and out each and every day, with a legible signature. *Saturday, Nov 2 – 10:00 – Tot Shabbat
