What a week we have had. Our week started out with working on our Dream Catchers. We talked about bad dreams, sad dreams and happy dreams. The children shared all their stories about their dreams. We then began to make our Dream Catchers, meant to catch all our scary and sad dreams. The children wrapped the yarn around our wooden circles and beaded the handing feather streamers. If you haven't had the chance to see the Dream Catchers, just stop in the room and look up. The children are looking forward to taking them home next week. Tuesday we finished up our Ten Commandments and we spoke about rules for our classroom and in school. We also spoke about how most of these rules were rules that relate to the community. We began working on our Torah, putting together pages that are included in the Torah. The children had the opportunity to hold and unroll a small child-sized Torah. All week we added pages to the Torah, and during circle time, we spoke about each holiday that we included. It seemed to be a holiday recap of the year. These will come home the last day of school, they are for the Father's Day, a wonderful way to honor our Dads. On Wednesday the children helped to make a delicious sweet dairy/egg pudding (kugel), in celebration of Shavuot. It is customary to eat dairy on the holiday. Some of the children chose to try the noodle kugel. We had mixed reactions to the taste and texture. It had lots of ingredients that the children had never tasted. Teacher Farzaneh came in on Wednesday wearing a funny looking shoe and she spoke to all of the children about her injury and how she is taking care of it so it will get better and she will be able to run around with them soon. Thursday it was a day with lots of mixed emotions as Teacher Fern had to say, "See you soon," to the children, so that she could take care of her daughter who lives across the country. A lot of the children know where New York is and that it is a big plane ride away. We shared cupcakes and hugs. Friday the children came in white and had beautiful flower leis around their heads. What a beautiful sight this is. Cameron was Shabbat boy and his family shared the day with us. Shabbat is always a special time for Room 13. It is a day filled with warmth. Next week Teacher Farzaneh and Teacher Sue will be with the children and Teacher Fern will be thinking about them. Please keep in touch. Best wishes and love, Fern and Farzaneh
