Dear Room 13 Families,
We once again, began our week with a beautiful class Havdalah service. The children watched as the new Havdalah candle burned and dripped onto our canvas, our ongoing Havdalah art. Take a look when you get a chance, as it changes each week. We were also able to use this time as a wonderful time to introduce the class to our new friend Sonny. The children were so excited to meet him and clearly remembered our conversations about how we welcome new friends. They happily introduced themselves and showed Sonny all around our room! With the holiday of Simchat Torah now over and keeping in mind the school value of – “רב שלום בניך” Students of Torah, Builders of Peace. This week, we focused on God as a builder. We learned all about the very first story in the Torah, the story of B’reishet, the story of Creation. We discussed all the work, time, effort and care that God put into building and creating each piece of our world. When hearing the story of Creation, the children helped by adding at the end of each day, God looked around and said, “This is good!” We learned, the very important message, that when God created people on the last day, we were created to be partners with God; that it is our job to take care of our world and one another. The children have begun creating their very own book, with a page for each day of creation. To remind ourselves what happened on each day, we learned a song that reminds us of all the things that God built for us. We will continue to work on our book next week, learn more about the story and to begin thinking of, not only God, but ourselves as well as builders of our world. On Thursday, we had a wonderful opportunity to join Rabbi Josh in the Sanctuary to get an up close look at the Torah. We saw a free standing Torah opened and each child had the opportunity to go up on the bimah, use a yad, and “read” a line of Torah. We also greatly enjoyed our time with Andrew, our Music teacher. We sang songs, danced and played new instruments. On Shabbat, we had the opportunity to perform a wonderful mitzvah. We attended our first Beit Issie Shapiro Farmer’s Market. The children were excited to see the fruits they had brought and to give their tzedakah to purchase a cup of the fruit they chose. We then ended our week by celebrating a beautiful Shabbat with Sienna and her family. Shabbat Shalom, Hannah and Chen Reminders: *Please remember to sign your child in and out, with a legible signature, and the time in which you arrived and left EVERY day.
