Dear Room 13 Families,
Wow, our first full week of school was filled with joy, dancing, art and so much more! We began our week with a beautiful All School Havdalah service. We gathered together in Plotkin to say goodbye to Shabbat and welcome in the new week. We lit the colorful twisted candle, smelled the wonderful spices and watched as the candle was extinguished into the Kiddush cup. It was truly a wonderful way to start our week together. Throughout our week, we continued our study of the story of Creation, Bereshit. Each day, we focused on a different day of Creation, hearing the story, creating an art piece, singing songs and even dancing for some of the days (learning the chicken dance and Animal Action on the days in which birds and animals were created). The children greatly enjoy helping to tell the story, reminding us of what was created on each day and when it was finally time for God to rest. As our time as a Room 13 community grows, the children continue to form new bonds, build new friendships and strengthen the ones they had. As a group, the children have enjoyed building together on the carpet, playing in our Sukkah and working at our table centers. During circle time, the children love starting off our morning with Modeh Ani, the blessing in which we say thank you to God for waking up our bodies each morning. Even though it was new to most of the children just a few weeks ago, they now sing it loud and proud each and every day! We have also begun our daily check-ins to see which friends are present and which are absent. Together we count our friends (knowing that if everyone is present we should have 13 children) and then to figure out who is missing we sing a song (spelling out each child’s name) and put our cards, with names and pictures, on our wall. In the end we see whose card is still left. The children enjoyed our first visit to the Library. Thank you so much to Maddie and her mom, Melody, for reading books to us during our visit. We also had our first official "Storah Time" with Rabbi Sari. We traveled to Room 14 to hear the wonderful story of Noah's Ark. We even learned a great song in which we hear the whole story of Noah. From there we traveled to Room 10 where we had Music with Andrew. He also focused his songs, activities and instruments on the story of Noah's Ark! We ended our week with a beautiful Shabbat. We celebrated with our Room 13 community, singing the blessings and enjoying our challah together and then joined with the Explorer community for services with Rabbi Josh and Ditza. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and we will see you on Tuesday. Shabbat Shalom, Hannah and Chen Reminders: *Please remember to sign your child in and out, with a legible signature, EVERY day.
