We began our week, like we do each week, with a beautiful class Havdalah service. The children sang the blessings, smelled the spices and held hands as we dipped the candle into the grape juice and said goodbye to Shabbat.
On Tuesday, we had the pleasure of taking our first trip to the school library. We first discussed the difference between our class library and the school library. We talked about how the library is a quiet space for reading and learning. The children had stories read to them and then read books on their own and with friends. Thank you so much to Dylan and his mom, Sheila, for being our first Library Reader. Throughout the rest of our week, we continued our discussion and storytelling of the story of Bereisheet, Creation. Each day we tackled another day of creation, all the while discussing how thankful we are for each of God’s creations. As we discussed the importance of the sixth day of creation, the day in which God created animals on land and people, we learned that God created people to be God’s partners to help take care of all of God’s amazing creations. We thought about what this means for us . Olivia thought we could give kisses to love God’s creations and Kaitlyn added that we could also give the animals hugs. Noah thought by picking up trash we could take care of the land God created, and Skyler added that we could plant flowers and trees. After discussing each day, the children created a puppet for that day. Eventually, they will be able to tell the story using their puppets, all on their own. The children also created a special Creation puppet holder out of clay. With Thanksgiving growing closer, we have, of course, been discussing what it means to be thankful for all the wonderful things in our lives. As mentioned, we have tied it into the story of Creation and being thankful for all of God’s creations. We have also discussed what, in our daily lives, we are each thankful or grateful for. Ariana, Brahm, Cameron and Kaitlyn all mentioned that they are thankful for their families, while Mia is thankful for animals and Skyler is thankful for the soup with potatoes and leaves that mommy makes. Next week we will celebrate by having our Friendship Feast with all of the Explorer classes. On Thursday, we had the pleasure of singing with Andrew, our music teacher and hearing a wonderful story from Rabbi Josh. He introduced the idea of how Abraham became the first Jewish person. We ended our week by celebrating a beautiful Shabbat with all of our Room 13 friends.
