Dear Room 14 Parents,
This week at school was an eventful one. We started out our week learning about Tu B’Shevat, (Thursday, February 4, 2015— the day that marks the beginning of a “new year” for trees). The children had the opportunity to create their own trees using paper, glue, glitter and buttons. We went outside to our “Happy Tree” (the tree outside our classroom that we gather at each day), sang “Happy Birthday” and ate yummy cupcakes! Wednesday we had a trip to the library. Teacher Sarah read The Tiny Seed and Tiffany read Sammy Spider’s First Tu B’Shevat. We would like to celebrate Tu B’Shevat with the children by eating some of the traditional Tu B’Shevat foods (the five fruits are thus grapes (vines), figs, pomegranates, olives, and dates (honey), while the two grains are wheat and barley). We will be post a sign-up sheet next week. We also learned about Martin Luther King, Jr. We read a story about him and practiced saying “I have a dream”. We asked the children to share their own “dreams” with us. These “dreams” included sharing, being nice to each other and playing together. We have no school on Monday, so it would be nice to remind your child that we are celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday. You can talk about how he was a special friend. He helped friends get along and play together. As always, we continued to learn our letters and numbers. We traced wooden letters using pencils (you can practice this at home as well). Liam showed us lots of pictures of his new baby sister Lyla and taught us about what an infant needs. He said sometimes Lyla needs her pacifier, sometimes she needs a new tiny diaper and sometimes she likes us to hold her. We can’t wait to meet Lyla! Have a wonderful long weekend and we will see you all on Wednesday! Shabbat Shalom, Sarah & Tiffany Thank You: Arlen and Sky for a wonderful snack. Grant and family for a beautiful Shabbat. Reminders: Stephanie and Dylan will bring our healthy snack on Wednesday January 21. Bella and her family will join us for Shabbat on Friday January 23. We will be posting our Tu B’Shevat sign-up sheet!
