For the last few weeks we have been playing with shapes and numbers among other things. The children have been working on their fine motor development by drawing shapes using shape stencils. This week we took it one step further. The children had an extended period during which they could use the shape stencils and then add their own design to the shapes. This made for some truly interesting pictures. The children enjoyed reflecting on this process and studying their finished work.
Last week we celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. with the children. For the last two weeks, we have had discussions about Dr. King and his dream. We will continue to incorporate his dream into everything that we do in the classroom. Next week we will start discussing Tu B’ Shevat, The New Year for Trees. Our discussions will consist of talking about different types of trees, what trees and plants do for us and how we can take care of the trees and plants that are around us. For the next few weeks leading up to Tu B’ Shevat we will be doing some planting, both in and outside of the classroom, and going on nature walks so that we can observe the different types of trees around the school. On February 9th, all Explorers will be having a Tu B’ Shevat celebration outside in the amphitheater. Also for next week we will start talking more about feelings (emotions). Through art, books, discussions and photos we will explore our feelings and the feelings of others. We know our children are already in tune with their feelings by the way in which they speak to and notice their friends throughout the day. For example, today Talia asked Aaron how he was feeling. It was so beautiful to watch the exchange, to see the emotional response of a friend when they understand that another friend cares about how they are. We ended the week with a beautiful Shabbat. We hope you have a wonderful weekend. Reminders: Jan 21- Tot Shabbat Jan 24- Library is Harper and Paloma Jan 27- Aaron is Shabbat Boy here to edit.
