This week we continued our discussion on shapes, numbers and puzzles. We explored all these ideas with fun and new table set ups.
We traced circles, squares, triangles, rectangles and hexagons. Tracing curved and straight lines, circles and other shapes refines children's muscles and coordination, which makes it easier for them to transition to writing. We played number bingo this week which is helpful for the children to recognize numbers and sharpen pre-math skills. The children enjoy playing and the best part is that they are learning through their play! Everyone is a winner and we are teaching the children the importance of having fun and not worrying so much about the winning element. We had the entire floor covered in puzzles this week. We are really focusing on puzzles because they are so important for our children. This develops hand-eye co-ordination and fine motor skills it builds visual-perceptual skills and develops attention, concentration and thinking skills such as recognizing, remembering, matching, sorting and problem so. During circle time, we read and discussed the book “The color of us” by Karen Katz. The book was about how everyone has different color skin and the importance of how everyone is beautiful. We tied this book into our Martin Luther King discussion as well. We looked back on being kind, treating everyone equally and respect. During music, this week Andrew incorporated our talks about Martin Luther king and friendship with a brand-new song. The song focused on being one community and showing two fingers for peace and touching our hearts for love. The song was special and it was nice to see the children with their arms around one another at the end. Thursday, we celebrated Martin Luther King’s birthday with a book and a granola friendship bar snack that the kids made themselves! We ended the week with a beautiful Shabbat with Ella and her family. We hope you have a nice long weekend and we will see you all on Wednesday!
