This week we got ready for Tu B’Shevat! To prepare for the occasion the children chose a bean (pink, white, black, Red Kidney, Black eye Peas or Pinto beans) and planted it in their own little planter. At group time, we read, “We were tired of living in a house,” By Liesel Moak Shorpen. The book was about some children who left their house to go on an adventure and live in nature. They tried living under a tree, a pond and even a cave. During our discussion, we explained how important it is to take care of our plants, trees and the environment. One of our friends said, “We have to be nice because it’s the trees birthday.” The kids had many things to say “Can we have snack under the tree?” “I have been apple picking before.” “Can strawberries grow on trees?” The children enjoyed talking about this and we spent all week discussing. On Thursday, all the explorers came together for a BIG Tu B’Shevat celebration with Rabbi Josh. We enjoyed all different kinds of fruit and dried fruit. We explained where the fruits come from and showed pictures. The children enjoyed the fruit buffet and most were ready for seconds.
In addition to celebrating Tu B’Shevat, we had a special week enjoying time with the dads and grandfathers in our class. The doors were open and the children were so excited to show their loved ones around. The dads played games, got dirty with playdough and even got to enjoy a special music with all of us. We ended the week with a BIG father and grandfather Shabbat, and we really want to thank you all for taking the time to come spend time with us! It meant so much to the children and to us. We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
