Dear Parents, This week was so special as the children had those that they love to come and visit our classroom, play with us and spend Shabbat together. Thank you to everybody who was able to come, it made our week extra meaningful. The week started off with Havdalah where we say goodbye to Shabbat and welcome the new week. We come together as a grade level, making our time more meaningful when sharing it with our peers. Thank you to Emmett Ragland’s father, Tanner, for coming in to share his chocolate chip oatmeal cookie recipe with our class, making everything from scratch. The children enjoyed it very much and they exercised their patience by waiting to take turns contributing to the mixture as a class. Our all-school Shabbat was so special because of all of the loved ones who were able to join us, thank you all for joining us. As we set out an activity where the children place the corresponding number of airplanes on a line with a number on the cloud, we noticed the children enjoying recognizing the numbers themselves in addition to choosing different color airplanes to match up (or even create a pattern.) To feed this interest, we added a felt story on the board that has the children recognizing numbers 1-10 on an ice cream cone, and then matching them with the ice cream top with the same number of sprinkles. They worked as pairs to finish this together, promoting communication between them as well as cooperation and teamwork. Since the children have mastered most of our jigsaw style puzzles all the way up to 48 pieces, we have transitioned to using puzzles that are centered around counting and number recognition. They have shown interest in puzzles in various forms, so we plan to begin a larger lesson on different kinds of puzzles than just jigsaw, working on a collaborative much larger puzzle over the course of weeks, and ways in which we can create our own puzzle. Thank you to Emmie’s mom for coming in to celebrate her birthday with us, as well as Hannah and Lilah mom’s for coming in for library this week.
