Dear Parents,
This week was full of fun activities and learning! The children were making pictures out of shapes on our geoboards. As the week went on and the children became more familiar and comfortable with these board and rubber bands, we challenged them to create larger pictures using the shapes that they were making. The stretching of the rubber bands strengthened their fine motor development. Also strengthening their fine motor skills was the tongs and balls game. We had many types of tongs with varying levels of difficulty. The children at first were moving the balls and pom poms, some easier than others, into a small bowl. We made this activity a bit more challenging later by putting out the more difficult tongs, having smaller balls to grab, and having to put the balls into smaller holes in paper towel rolls instead of the larger bowls. The children were challenged cognitively this week with our floor activities. First, we put out a 48-piece dinosaur puzzle that required many friends to work as a team. It was challenging but with little teacher assistance, the children collaborated and used each other’s strengths to finish a quite challenging puzzle. They were so proud of themselves when they were done. We also had marble mazes on the floor this week. This game has many types of slides, squiggles and ramps to help children create their own tall and twisty maze to put a marble in and watch how it travels down. It required them to think about weight distribution and used their problem-solving skills if the marble would not take the path that was built. To connect with the marble maze, we did marble painting as well. The children chose their colors and exercised control when slowly rolling the marbles around. We have begun Passover songs, reading books and brief discussions at group time. The children began the multi-step process of making their Seder plates by rolling out clay and stamping the symbols of each item on the plate. Thank you to Jaclyn for being library mom this week. Reminders: Next week we have conferences on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday is a half day and early dismissal is at 12pm. Shabbat boy next week is Sasha. Our Passover Seder is March 22nd at 10:30am. Parents are invited but please no siblings in order to have enough space for all parents. The sign up for the Passover party food will be out early next week. Shabbat Shalom, Room 14 teachers
