Dear Parents,
Room 14 has been busier than ever! Monday we jumped right into a discussion with the children about a holiday we celebrated on Thursday, called Yom Haatz’ma'ut (Israeli Independence Day). We made bracelets filled with white and blue beads. The children chose a pattern with which to decorate their bracelets. We also decorated plates with blue and white glass paint. We are using the plates as Israel birthday gifts for our families (we hope you like them). Tuesday, we started the morning with cutting shapes. It is so important for children to practice cutting because it builds eye- hand coordination, and in this case, it also helped them to practice shape recognition. Later in the day, we played Alphabet Bingo! We really love playing Bingo with the children because it promotes social skills and development as well as letter recognition. This week we also got the chance to visit the library, where Jeffrey’s mommy joined us and read us a few books! She read, “There was an old lady who swallowed a fly,” which is definitely a class favorite, and, “Ella’s trip to Israel." The children also made and decorated flags. We used sticks that we gathered from a previous nature walk and newspaper and a lot of blue and white paint! Thursday finally arrived, and we came to school in Blue and White to celebrate Israel’s birthday. We read, “Sammy Spiders trip to Israel,” and enjoyed a special parade with all of our Explorer friends. After singing and parading around the Explorer yard, we all came together for a picnic snack, which included Pita, Hummus, Israeli pickles and, of course, good company! We ended the week with a beautiful Shabbat. We hope you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to seeing you Monday. Shabbat Shalom.
