Dear Parents,
This week the children continued working on their shabbat boxes. This is a project which has many components, requiring the children to have patience when wanting to take parts home and understand that each part is a component of a larger whole. We spent time discussing Shavuot and its many meanings. First being the grain harvest, and the second being the giving of the Torah. We looked at the small Torah that we have in our classroom, opening it up and looking at what is inside. The children made observations about the Torah using detailed descriptive vocabulary and comparing aspects of the Torah to things that they already know or have seen. We had a wonderful Shabbat with stories about Shavuot and the children looked great dressed in all white. The children got more exposure to upper case letters through stamps and they were challenged to find the letters in their name and write it in stamps. We have also upgraded our puzzles to more difficult ones with more pieces and no pictures behind them to match. Also, we have noticed that as the children have begun recognizing most of the letter and understanding the sounds associated with them, we introduced a puzzle that creates three letter words using both upper case letters and the picture of the word itself. We started voting on which games to play, explaining the concept of voting and what a majority and minority is these situations. The kids also had an amazing time doing splatter painting in the style of Jackson Pollock, learning about painting with emotions and having fun getting messy. Thank you to Elijah and his family for celebrating his birthday with us and for being Shabbat family this week.
