Room 14 has had a wonderful full week at school! We continued working with colors and exploring pumpkins. We also introduced patterning with colors. Patterns serve as the cover stone of algebraic thinking. Working with patterns invites young children to identify relationships and generalizations.
On Tuesday, we went on a nature walk to collect fall items for our classroom. The children found leaves, pinecones and lots of different kinds of sticks. We go on nature walks because it develops observation skills, cultivates curiosity and gives the children a chance to identify patterns in nature. These foundation skills will serve as a strong foundation for the rest of their learning journey. Using their 5 senses – smell, sight, touch, taste and hearing, your child can learn a lot about the world. We would like to invite our families in room 14 to take their child for a nature walk, either around the neighborhood, park or a child friendly hike and bring anything they’ve have collected on their walk to school. Wednesday we were very busy making pumpkin slime! We thought it would be a fun fall sensory activity for the children. We used borax, glue, warm water and our special ingredient: “pumpkin pie spice.” The kids had so much fun making it and an even better time playing with it! We also enjoyed music with Brock. He taught us a few new songs and we had a big old dance party. After music we visited tricycle express. The children are really enjoying our time over there and since the weather is cooling down it’s been so nice. Thursday we decided to bake. We had few leftover bananas from last week and so we made banana bread! The children always get excited to bake and they love eating what they put their hard work into, not to mention the math and science skills they are working on as they pour, measure, mix and count. We ended the week with a beautiful Shabbat. We hope everyone has a wonderful and relaxing weekend. We will see you all Monday!
