Dear Parents,
There were so many fun activities this week at Wise School and in Room 14! In the beginning of the week, we baked chocolate chip banana bread. The children enjoyed learning about measuring cups, the wet versus dry ingredients, and using their senses to engage in the activity. We got to eat it for snack and all of the children really enjoyed it. We made sova bags for each child, which they decorated over multiple days using liquid water colors to create a tie dye effect. The children are looking forward to using their bags often. We also had the farmers market today. Thank you to everybody for bringing in berries to contribute as well as sending money for your children to donate. There was such a lovely spread and the students got to discuss with their friends what their favorites were and why. The children also discussed favorites when they were observing our pumpkins and squash collection with magnifying tools. This week was exciting because we began playing Bingo. We have many types of bingo, but we have started off with shapes and colors. The children have really begun to understand how the game is played and can sit for a lengthy period of time while playing. They are constantly recognizing unfamiliar shapes, such as diamond and rectangles, as well as the basic shapes. We have seen them even begin to incorporate this into other play around the room. For example, at the writing table this week we have put out large colored tape and children’s scissors. The children have been using the tape to create shapes and are so proud to show their friends and teachers. Thursday was an extra special meeting with Rabbi Josh as we celebrated Simchat Torah in synagogue getting an up-close look at the Torah. Rabbi Josh taught the children about the parts of the Torah, what was inside, how we take care of it and why it is so special to the Jewish people. It was a lovely Shabbat with Blake and his family as we celebrated with healthy snacks in the room and lovely songs and stories from Ditza and Rabbi Josh.
