Dear Parents,
This week was filled with a focus on mitzvot. We read books related to the topic, which are listed at the end of the newsletter incase you would like to add them to your personal collections. We read the books multiple times over the week so that the children used their recall and began to really absorb the content and meaning of the books after being exposed a few times. We had our farmer’s market for the Beit Issie School in Israel, which was the topic of discussion during our group times throughout the week. The children got to play with an imaginary farmers market that we created in the classrooms using cash registers, shopping bags, recycled boxes to hold food in, and money. The children also were first exposed to our floor puzzles, beginning with an alphabet train puzzle. The children had multiple times over the week to master it and were so proud of themselves when they worked together as a group to finish it. We have continued our exposure to smaller jigsaw puzzles as well, currently working with the children on mastering a 12-piece puzzle with pictures behind it. This allows them to use multiple strategies, matching the pieces to the picture in addition to the positioning of the pieces to figure out the puzzles. At the sensory table, the children got to experience kinetic sand using multiple tools to play with how the sand moves and can be transferred, such as cups, strainers, spoons and tongs. These promote fine motor development and the sensory exposure gives the children the opportunities to expand their language by talking about what they are feeling. Also, it is very exciting this week was the beginning of our time in the Katz gym. We have access to use the materials such as balls, goals, cones, and many other games. We played partner catching games, working on hand eye coordination and working in partners, where we placed in the children in partners with new friends that they also sat with at lunch time. The children had such a blast playing in this new and wonderful space and we look forward to having weekly gym time. Reminders: October 31st will be a half day for the children, the second half of the day being reserved for conferences. November 1st will be no school for the children, also for conferences.
