Dear Room 13 Families,
Wow! What an amazing week, full of wonderful celebrations! We began our week with a beautiful, school wide, Havdalah celebration. We sat together with the rest of the children in our school, as we said goodbye to Shabbat and hello to our exciting week to come. Throughout our week, we continued our discussions on Israel; the importance of having Israel, what Israel can mean to each of us and what makes Israel so special. We read many books about Israel, sang many Israeli songs and even cooked special Israeli treats. We learned about a few special places within Israel, the Kotel (Western Wall), the Dead Sea and heard all about what it is like to live on a Kibbutz. The children created our very own Kotel and discussed what prayers to God they would put within the walls of the Kotel. They were very excited to hear that Chen could actually take their prayers to Israel this summer and place them in the real Kotel! On Wednesday we had the joy of celebrating Sammy’s birthday with him and his family. On Thursday, we had a wonderful Yom HaAtzmaut, Israeli Independence Day, celebration! The children arrived in their blue and white ready to celebrate. Together with the rest of the Explorers, we met together to travel back in time with Rabbi Josh and Rabbi Sari to hear a story about where Jerusalem formed. We then boarded our “plane” to travel all the way to Israel. The children wrote notes and placed them in our Kotel and visited a Kibbutz wear they made orange juice and lemonade. They traveled down to the Dead Sea where they touched real mud from the Dead Sea and watched as an egg floated in water because it had so much salt. We then had the opportunity to visit an archeological dig where they, using a tooth brush, found ancient Israeli coins! We then came back to our class to enjoy a delicious snack. Thank you all so much for helping us provide this delicious snack. It was truly a wonderful day! We ended our week with a beautiful Shabbat celebration with Jordan and his family. We also had the joy of celebrating his 4th birthday and Israel’s birthday as we sang and waved our flags together at the Temple.
