Dear Room 13 Families,
What a wonderful, busy week we have had! We spent the week discussing, learning about and celebrating the amazing holiday of Sukkot. As we mentioned last week, we began learning about the holiday as well as the actual structure of a Sukkah. Since we could not go outside last Friday, we ended up having the time to build our Sukkah! The children were so excited and such fantastic helpers. We discussed what shape we were building and how the pipes needed to fit into one another. With that understanding and a bucket of tools, we got right to work. The children held the poles, helped to push them together and used plastic hammers, saws and a number of other tools to help the pipes stay together. It was a super exciting way to end our week. It was even more exciting for the children to enter the room on Tuesday morning and see our beautiful Sukkah waiting in the Dramatic Play center. Our Sukkah had walls and schach, and we discussed what else it needed. Immediately the children noticed that our Sukkah did not have decorations hanging in it like in many of the books we were reading about Sukkot. So the next day, we began decorating CDs and stringing beads to beautify our Sukkah. Each day different children have had the opportunity to eat snack or lunch under our Sukkah, as well as play under the structure during Center time. We had the amazing opportunity to visit one of the many Sukkot around our campus. We joined Room 15, as well as Rabbi Sari to spend time together under the Sukkah. Rabbi Sari taught us about the importance of the Lulav and Etrog and each child then took a turn waving the Lulav and smelling the sweet smell of the Etrog. We also heard a wonderful Sukkot story during our time in the Sukkah. Throughout our week, we visited the Yoga Studio, had Storah time and Music with Marcos. While in Yoga, we learned new poses for our Sukkot themed Yoga and during Storah time with Rabbi Sari, we talked more about the importance of the holiday of Sukkot as well as read the book, A Watermelon in my Sukkah. During Music we learned new songs for the holiday of Sukkot and began discussing the holiday of Simchat Torah, which we will be celebrating together on Tuesday. We ended our week with a beautiful Shabbat. We baked challah together and discussed the importance of giving tzedakah and performing mitzvot. We had the joy of attending our First Beit Issie Shapiro Farmer’s Market. We discussed with the children what a wonderful mitzvah they were doing by bringing their tzedakah to the Farmer’s Market. We learned about Beit Issie Shapiro, a very special school in Israel for children with special needs. The children saw pictures of this amazing school, including their swimming pool and light room for different types of therapies, and they learned about a boy name Binaya who is about their age and attends Beit Issie. We discussed how our tzedakah helps him get the things his body needs. After our wonderful visit, we enjoyed Shabbat together as a class and with our Explorer/Investigator community. Shabbat Shalom, Hannah and Chen Reminders: *Please make sure to sign in and out each and every day, with a legible signature. *Monday, October 21 – No School – Shemini Atzaret
