Dear Room 13 Families, Even with this week being so short, it was still such a busy and exciting week here in the Room 13 classroom. Beginning our week on a Wednesday, felt different, but the children were so excited to share with one another (and Rabbi Sari when she joined us) all of the fun and exciting things they did with their families over the long weekend. We spent the day enjoying our time at centers, finishing up our Tree Ramps and hearing the wonderful story of Stone Soup with Rabbi Sari. As she spoke about the town working together to create something amazing (and delicious), it tied in perfectly with our many conversations, while interacting with our numerous ramps, on teamwork and treating others with kindness. When the children entered the room on Wednesday morning, they quickly noticed that our light room had been transformed. They were immediately interested and excited to find out all about this new space. We let them explore and interact with one another in this new addition to our room. On Thursday, it was finally time to learn more about it and hear the story of the upcoming holiday of Purim. The children met the characters; King Achashverosh, Vashti, Mordechai, Esther and the evil Haman. They heard about how Vashti stood up to the King when she was uncomfortable, how Esther became Queen, but did not tell the King she was Jewish, how Mordechai would not bow down to Haman because Jewish people only bow down to our one God, how the evil Haman was plotting to “make all the Jewish people leave Shushan,” and how Queen Esther saved the Jewish people with her bravery and her words! We will continue to discuss the important messages within this story as well as make the exciting connection between the characters in the Purim story, their actions and the wonderful conversations we have been having in class on the importance of how we treat one another. We ended our week with a beautiful Shabbat service and celebration. We had the pleasure of celebrating with our Room 13 community. Shabbat Shalom, Hannah and Chen Reminders: *Please remember to sign your child in and out, with a legible signature, EVERY day, as well as the time. If you have a high-lighted section, it means we need your signature or time in that space, as well as your normal spot for the day. *Monday, Feb 24 – Room 13 Picture Day *Friday, Feb 28 – Generations Shabbat
