Dear Room 13 Families, What a busy and Passover filled week! We began our week with the rest of the Explorer friends, celebrating Havdalah together. We said goodbye to Shabbat and our Purim-filled week and welcomed in our new week and excited to begin to learn about the holiday of Passover! When we returned to the classroom, the children were excited to see a number of props in the circle and waited eagerly to hear the story of Passover and learn the values that the story has to offer. The children listened intently as they watched a baby Moses float down the Nile River, with his sister Miriam standing by for safety. They learned about how Moses grew up in the palace with the mean Pharaoh and how the Israelite people had to work hard as Pharaoh’s slaves. We discussed what it meant to be slaves in Egypt and how it must have felt when they were finally free. They learned all about how Moses left Egypt after seeing how awful the Israelite people were being treated and how he later came back after God, speaking through a burning bush, asked him to return and help to free the Israelites. They watched closely as, after Pharaoh said No, with God’s help, Moses’s staff turned into a snake and as a container of water turned red, symbolizing Moses turning the water into dirty water. They sang songs about frogs jumping here and there and watched as the pretend Israelite people danced through two pieces of blue fabric, symbolizing the parting of the Sea of Reeds, all while understanding the importance of how, with God’s help, Moses stood up for the Israelite people. Throughout our story, we focused on the bravery and courage that it took from Moses and the Israelite people. We briefly discussed what a Seder is and will go into more depth on this next week. We look forward to continuing these meaningful conversations and preparing for our class Seder over the next few weeks leading up to Passover. Throughout the rest of the week, we sang numerous Passover songs, heard the story in a number of different ways and created some Passover artwork. The children worked together to create the Sea of Reeds where the Israelites passed through, structures like the Israelites worked hard on and even a number of jumping frogs just like the plague that fell over Egypt. It was so wonderful meeting you all over during our conference days. We enjoy sharing all the wonderful, amazing things your children do while here at school! We ended our week with a beautiful Shabbat, celebrating with Hardy and his family.
